Here are some of the criteria and questions that I would suggest using for choosing a healer.

1. Reputation.

Word of mouth is probably still one of the best ways to choose a healer. Get your referrals from someone you trust, and/or someone who has gone through the same or similar suffering of your own with positive results. Ask for testimonials.

2. Experience.

How long has the practitioner been working? Have they worked with your particular condition or illness, how many people have they treated for it, what were the outcomes? What type of healing approach will they be using , energy healing, spiritual healing , do they know the difference between the two main approaches? Don't be afraid to ask specific questions.

3. Rapport.

How did you feel during your first consultation with the practitioner? Did you feel comfortable, did you feel more calm and relaxed or more uncertain afterwards?, Does this person's knowledge and approach make sense to your rational mind, does it feel right, do you feel some connection? Listen to your rational mind and your intuition.

4. Diagnosis.

Does the energy healer ie. prana, chi, crystal, reiki healer etc. have the clarity to see feel or know the condition of your energy bodies, at least the chakras and meridians of the etheric body? Can they clearly see where the energy blockages or depletion are located in your major chakras and the minor chakras in the organs, joints etc.,? Do they know if the cause of your condition or illness is on the etheric, emotional or a more subtle level? Ask for a detailed description of your energy anatomy.

5.Outcome.

Did you feel better, the same or worse after the first healing? If you had more physical pain afterwards, did they tell you this was part of the "healing crisis", because this is a misconception. Increased pain means that your energy is still unbalanced and blocked and probably even more blocked than when you arrived. Emotional catharsis is a healthy sign and may indicate the release of some blocked energy or a spiritual renewal. Be sure that the practitioner is knowledgeable and experienced and able to teach you the skills to effectively work through these potentially painful emotions. The ability to clearly "see" the energy body is also important for the outcome, in order to know whether your energy is actually restored to balance and greater harmony at the end of the healing session.

6. Kundalini.

If you are suffering from kundalini then ideally you want to find a true spiritual healer, who is also a highly experienced and proficient energy healer, who has the skills mentioned above under diagnosis , who has personally experienced a positive outcome from kundalini awakening and has consistently and effectively helped others with kundalini related suffering, without any adverse effects. This requires the practice of pure, non-dualistic awareness, its nature is harmony and cannot be misused.

7. Empowerment.

A good practitioner will encourage you to understand the reasons for your condition and the importance of sharing in the responsibility for your healing, through dietary changes, herbs, and exercise, or practices such as meditation, mindfulness, yoga, maybe chi kung, or whatever is appropriate to restore balance and harmony for your particular condition.
